Learn how to create App Passwords for your Google Workspace account to enhance security and access your account with less secure apps like Outlook. Follow our simple steps to generate App Passwords.

App Passwords are a secure way to access your Google Workspace account with less secure apps like Outlook. By using App Passwords, you can enable two-factor authentication (2FA) for added security.

Steps to Generate an App Password:

  1. Sign in to your Google Account:
    • Open your web browser and go to myaccount.google.com.
    • Sign in with your Google Workspace credentials.
  2. Go to Security Settings:
    • In the left-hand menu, select "Security."
  3. Scroll Down to App Passwords:
    • Scroll down to the "App Passwords" section.
    • Click "Select app."
  4. Choose the App:
    • Choose "Other (Custom Name)" from the list of apps.
    • Enter a descriptive name for the app password, such as "Outlook." This will help you remember which app the password is for.
  5. Generate the Password:
    • Click "Generate Password."
    • A 16-character password will be displayed.
    • Copy the password and store it securely.
  6. Use the App Password:
    • Open your less secure app (e.g., Outlook).
    • When prompted for your password, enter the App Password you just generated.

Important Note:

App Passwords are specific to the app and device you use them with. If you switch devices or apps, you'll need to generate a new App Password.

By following these steps, you can enhance the security of your Google Workspace account and continue to use less secure apps with peace of mind.
